Today’s Chapter: Psalm 42

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.   Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”                                                                             Psalm 42:5 & 11 NIV

Twice in this Psalm an internal question and answer session happens about being downcast and disturbed. The reply back is to hope in God and praise Him. At times there are so many reasons to be downcast & disturbed but the hope of God far outweighs them all no matter what our soul feels. Romans 15:13 describes the Lord as a God of hope who fills us with joy and peace when we trust Him so that we can in turn overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope is a contagious thing that is desperately needed in the midst of many downcast souls today.
