Today’s Chapter: II Kings 12

“Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him. The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.”

                                                                       II Kings 12:2-3

If you’ve ever had a work evaluation, it usually goes something like this. “You’re doing a great job, we love having you here. However, there are a few things we want you to work on.” Now maybe that is my dreamland version of a work evaluation, but the last part is certainly true; we all have things to work on. Joash came out of the Faith gates strong; he was pursuing the Lord, repairing the Temple, but this verse stands out above all he did: “The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.” At numerous times in our lives we need to do a “gut check” to make sure we are not allowing anything that is not of the Lord to creep its way into our life. Because if we are not careful, 95% of what we do may seem pleasing and good, but it is the 5% we keep hidden that will kill us and our ministries. Are there any places in your life that need to be tore down and burned that your followership of Christ will remain true to course? If there are, bring them to the light and tear them down today. The consequences of not doing so will kill more than your witness, it will kill a part of you as well.
