Today’s Chapter: I Kings 2

“I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’       I Kings 2:2-4

If you were aware that you were about to die, you would want others to know what’s important to you, the ultimate piece of wisdom, the key to life, the lessons learned in your own life that you could spare someone else from having to go through. You would want others to walk away with that gold nugget to carry with them for all of the remainder of their own life. David did that… walk in the Lord’s ways. He knew the pain that could be spared if only his son would walk in the Lord’s ways. David knew firsthand the pressures of this world and tendency to stray from the Lord’s ways and he longed for his son to know just how important it is to walk with the Lord.

Coming from a man after God’s own heart, let’s take heed of this treasure. Living day-to-day in the midst of all the struggles and chaos of our world requires discipline to constantly keep focused on God. He truly does offer the best life walking with Him!
